Case Studies
Case Study One: a multi-national FMCG manufacturer recognized a lack of future leadership in their Japan team, partly due to a lack of good communication skills and English proficiency. Canning worked with this client over a period of several years to develop more effective communication skills amongst hundreds of employees at all levels of the organization. This involved isolating key communication skills relevant to this organization’s culture and business environment, and developing and delivering a range of programs to build these skills. We also developed an assessment tool to measure communicative competencies of key personnel. This measurement was linked to the organization’s promotional criteria.
Case Study Two: the Japanese subsidiary of a global bank needed a local training supplier to deliver programs in its “global core curriculum”. The bank outlined their goals for the training, and provided a brief description of the content. Canning developed the programs’ training content and materials, and delivered the programs on the client’s site.
Case Study Three: a domestic IT company became part of a global organization. We delivered a number of programs to build English proficiency, improve communications on a global level, and raise cross-cultural awareness of both Japanese staff and international management. Programs included global business communication skills, advanced negotiation skills, global meeting skills, managing in Japanese, and global teleconferencing skills, amongst others and were delivered on the client’s site as well as in our training centre in Tokyo.
Case Study Four: The Chinese subsidiary of a Japanese engineering company needed training for their staff involved in sourcing new international clients, particularly for staff who have to make client presentations. We delivered a series of presentation skills courses in their Shanghai office to ensure that any staff involving in presenting to potential clients portrayed a positive and consistent image.
Case Study Five: a global Japanese car manufacturer was welcoming a group of Thai, Indian and Brazilian engineers on a long-term training assignment in Japan. So that the engineers would get the maximum benefit of the assignment, we delivered a series of programs at their technical centre to raise cross-cultural awareness of working with the Japanese.
