When I first started training, I was amazed at the rush of adrenaline I felt every time I entered the training room.  Today, many years later, I still feel that rush. Being in an environment of inquiry and discovery can be extremely energizing.  It feels great to always end the day with more knowledge than I started out with, and to get a shot at participating in the success of others every single day.

There’s a reason trainers stay at Canning for so long – every single day is different. I can’t think of another job which would let me meet, speak to, and understand so many different people from so many different industries. To be able to help them achieve their potential at the same time is a great reward and privilege.

Coaching and lifelong learning are the two things closest to my heart. I Helpclients go through a process of self discovery – understanding their personality profile and how this impacts everything they do. I work with them to develop an action plan with specific, measurable and realistic goals and then work to action the plan in real time to release their full potential.

Learning is something that should continue throughout your life. Every day, I want to learn something new. I can always improve myself in some way.

It is important that people take responsibility for their own learning. From my experience, a trainer can only assist someone to learn.

Working with a variety of people and facilitating the process of learning and discovery is extremely energizing for me. I’m grateful for the chance to contribute to individual and organizational success while doing something that I love.

It is an exciting thing to meet and to get to know participants in workshops, particularly when they have clear goals. This is why I enjoy both facilitating and training.  I find coaching even more stimulating as we are able to go deeper into individual issues.

Training is an adventure, where participants break routine, meet other extraordinary people, travel into new business worlds and discover different ways of doing things, to acquire a richer perspective on things that, before, seemed so ordinary.

Having an interest in people is key you are always meeting new participant. The ability to make a real difference in their performance and effectiveness is really rewarding.

Each training session gives me a valuable chance to learn about another person, another company, and their unique needs for improved communication. Knowing that our participants will finish the program with concrete skills they can use immediately in the workplace gives me a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment.

The work of a trainer at Canning Professional is all about personal growth. The more of myself that I give to our participants, the more I receive from them – not just their time, but also their attention, their energy, their enthusiasm, and their commitment to follow the advice they receive and  the things they have learnt themselves through their contributions to the training process. This is a cycle of reciprocity that makes this work continually fresh and meaningful.

I am a firm believer in life-long learning, so it wonderful to be able to have the opportunity to contribute to the learning process of other people. Canning’s approach to training means that the entire process is rewarding for trainers and participants alike.

It’s my pleasure working as part of the Canning Professional team. Through program development, I’m able to tap into my creativity and in the training room, I’m regularly awed by the level of commitment and dedication demonstrated by the individuals and groups with whom I work. It makes me proud of the work we do at Canning.

Training is transformation. It is exciting to see participants complete a training with more confidence, energy, and resolute to handle their businesses. At each training, I strive to create an interactive team/group dynamics with participants. The best training occurs when people enjoy the training and feel comfortable to try even if they make mistakes. Good training dynamics make it possible for trainees to receive constructive feedback not only from the trainer but among fellow participants.

Training is sharing and I enjoy sharing.

Training for me is a way of giving back the benefit of my experience of over 30 years of business and finance. Every day of training is different and invigorating. The training I have received in my career has been invaluable to me and the companies for which I have worked. I seek to give other people that same stimulus and edge in an interesting and informative environment.

Throughout my professional life I have been driven by one over-riding passion: to help people reach their full potential in life. As a coach, I am able to indulge this passion one coachee at a time. Perhaps even more satisfyingly, though, by helping organizations to create long term, strategic talent management processes, I can bring a whole new level of leverage into what I do – reaching a far greater number of people and touching their lives on a much bigger canvas. I can think of no greater privilege in my profession.

As a trainer, there is always the opportunity to learn, whether it’s about our participants’ jobs, departments, companies, culture or the individuals themselves.  Every time I enter the training room, it is another opportunity to improve my skills as a trainer.  It’s a never-ending journey and that’s why this kind of work continues to fascinate me.
